Ok let us see who have a very good memory or who look over their notes:
Who can remember what we studied about 2 months ago?
UNITY… the fruit that is produced when we are all bonded together by LOVE.
We saw that the Webster New English dictionary defines “unity” as oneness, harmony or the state of being in one concord.
We also saw that UNITY is very important:
If you recall, the very first topic we had studied together was “Strategy of Combat” (spiritual warfare).
We saw that each one of us have different functions (some of us are worship singers, some are musicians, some are preachers, evangelists, prophets, etc…) but we all have to follow the instructions of the Commander and Chief: God himself. We must be equipped with the same armor and even if we might be put into different groups to undertake different missions (such as outdoor Sunday schools, open air services, group witnessing, gospel concerts, etc…) the global War is the same: the pulling down of the enemy’s kingdom.
You see, part of having a successful mission in spiritual battle is by having a certain unity between soldiers; and to have unity we need for that bond to be created by love. Everything is link together.
Then on a deeper level, we saw that the word UNITY is the union of 2 words: UNIT and TY.
A unit is the smallest possible whole number, one, a whole entity, a group of persons who carry out a specific function, something that fits with something else to form ONE complete item.
(Take a chair as an example: one chair is one unit, but it is formed from several parts that are joined together: feet, sitting piece, back piece…).
The word TY we saw is derived or comes from the word or number 3.
Thus the word Unity can be defined on a much higher level as “3 elements or 3 persons, together forming ONE.”
So for perfect unity to be established we need at least 3 persons, group of persons or things coming together to make one unit.
We studied briefly about the “Holy Trinity”. We saw that God our heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit and Jesus the Son are 3 completely different persons (just as a father, mother and son is different… but all belonging to the one and same family).
The verses were Genesis 1:26, John 1:1 to 3 and verse 14, John 14: 5 to 18 and Matthew 28:20.
And because they are always together (well at least nearly always), and because they are in such oneness: every time you find one you will find the 2 others.
Can you tell me which time in the history of all ages when there was a brief separation in the Godhead? And most of all, for what reason?
Mark 15:34 “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Throughout the whole Bible Jesus used the words “My Father” when he was referring to God, but at this very moment of the crucifixion He said: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Why? Because at that moment, Jesus took on all the sins of the world. If you think that all the sins of one sinner is bad, imagine putting all the sins of every sinner (that’s each one of us living on this planet now, those who lived before and also those that are not born yet)… wow! That’s a whole lot of sin brother Ben! Now picture God the Father being Holy cannot stand to look on just 1 sin.
So the presence of the Father left the Son for just that brief moment in all eternity.
The point I have learned from this: is that we all have to join together in love and in righteousness.
Or in other words: I cannot be your tag-team member if I am holding on to sin, nor you can’t be mine if you are holding on to sin.
Let us look at II Corinthians 6:14 to 18.
We are here to bring sinners unto the Christ the savior of the world, but to do so we have to have something that is different from them, something that they do not have. Something that would like or love to have!
If we are the same, the presence of God will not even be near us and we might likely do more damage than good. In fact Jesus said it very well himself in Luke 6:39 “And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?”
So there is no need for us to associate or unit ourselves with evil or sin… it will not profit us anything good but destruction.
We also concluding the last time by saying that when we are perfectly united we can achieve great things in the kingdom of God and we will be a force to be recon with by the evil one and his host.
Because of their unity, God the father, God the spirit and God the son had designed and created everything that is until this very day.
But also, when Jesus walked on Earth he performed great miracles because all power was giving to him from above, meaning from his father who is also our father, and that the Holy Spirit was with him everywhere he went. So the 3 were together.
For the bond of unity to produce efficiently, 3 things will be needed (keep in mind the definition of Unity: One unit composed of 3 parts or 3 persons, or 3 group of persons.
Let us look up at some examples:
Allow me to start with something that is well known and popularly used: a cellular phone: I hold in my hand a unit composed of 3 parts. Each part is very important for the unit to be able to produce what it has to produce.
-the outer part (keys and screen): allowing the user to read or to put in information into the phone.
-the heart (electronic circuits): allowing the phone to receive or transmit information via radio waves.
-and of course, the power supply or battery: allowing the phone to have power so that it can fulfill its function.
Now name any object that man has made and I challenge you that the item is made out of 3 basic parts all working together.
But man has only copied what he sees. This “tri-partied unity system” can be found even in the very element of nature itself.
School teaches that Earth, just like a fruit, is formed of 3 parts: a very hot and solid core or seed, a mantle or body fill with lava and a crust forming the solid soil we walk on.
Because those 3 parts are constantly moving, each at a precise speed and have a certain temperature… life is possible on Earth; and God ordained it to be so.
We have the movement of the Earth, the Sun, Moon and stars which gives the changing of time of the day and of seasons. And those of us who are accustom to planting we know that seasons are important in determining the outcome of the harvest.
Now let us come back to us humans.
We have always aspired or dream of having a perfect society or nation.
But who is needed to run a nation? A nation needs a leader (king or president), counselors or ministers and of course the people.
If each person in each category could flow together in love with the other person of the other category, then the perfect nation will be formed and will be untouchable amongst the nations of the earth.
Parallel to this, we have the divine institution: The Godhead who is in control of everything, the angels (who can also be grouped into 3 categories) also in heaven and all working to serve and worship the Most High, then we humans on earth who are also made to worship the Creator.
This is the kingdom that will last forever beyond the frontier of time.
Even the kingdom of darkness functions under the principle of unity of 3 units: a ruler (Satan himself), high delegates (the beast of the sea, antichrist and false prophets), and the principalities and rulers of darkness (all evil spirits).
But brother Ben, are you sure that there is unity in the kingdom of darkness? That’s impossible! (You might say)
Ok let us see: Luke 11:17 and 18 “But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? Because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub” .
This verse is so powerful, I deeply think and have reasons to believe if just for a moment we could get the entire revelation of just one small fragment of the Bible (or a few verses, not even en entire chapter) we will go crazy. Our earthly mind will never be able to grasp the extend of it.
First it shows us how powerful our Lord is: He can read each of use thoughts without us mentioning one word. No other being (physical or spiritual) has this ability, not even Satan with the little power he has. Then it shows me that all the kingdoms or the world that existed on earth that rose and fell had fallen because of division. The only 2 kingdoms that have lasted the longest so far thought time are the Kingdom of light (which is the oldest because it is the first) and the kingdom of darkness. Since these kingdoms are existing up to this very day it is because there is unity in each one of them. The question Jesus asked them implies that the kingdom of darkness is still standing.
Now this is the question I am asking: “Why is it then that we humans have so much difficulty uniting ourselves? (Something to think about)
I guess it is from this same verse, the famous “saying” comes from: “United we stand, divided we fall”.
Usually, when humans come together they form a group called a nation.
But what is the smallest unit of any giving society or nation? It’s the family.
What is the basic structure of a family? A father, a mother and at least one child.
So when I hear people talk about a family formed by: 2 men and a child, or 2 women and a child, or 1 father and a child or 1 mother and a child… it makes me smile.
Anything else than we just saw as the basic structure for the family causes a weakness or division within the home. What will happen to the nation? Just like a house that is build on pillars, if one or more are week, the house will hold up for a while but it is bound to fall some day.
I always hear people saying that their life is complete when they find their soul mate or that special someone. Yet a short time after marriage the wives or even husbands like me would harass the other: “when will get a baby?”
So that sense of completion, even for Christian spouses, is not really 100% complete until a child comes into the picture. God placed that into us since the Genesis times.
In fact, God who is the founder of the human family has so well planed everything even in the smallest detail… that do you if something affects one part of the family it also affects the others. That is why each decision has to be taken with every member in mind: the father who is the decision maker, the mother (I would call the option maker as you help to give options so that the husband can better decide under the wisdom of God) and the children (I think are the decision verifier). If you make a decision and don’t stand to what you say, your children (especially the young ones) will bring it back to remembrance.
So everyone is as equally important in the good growth of the family.
So for a man to bring out all of his abilities and be fully efficient as a man and to bring forth that full fruit and to complete his destiny as a man, he needs:
-Jesus in his life
-a wife and I emphasize on the word “wife” and not a woman (we will see why later on in our following studies on UNITY)
-and an offspring
As the head of the house, if we men can manage with the grace of God to keep on our mission for Christ while maintaining that love and unity in the home: then we are qualified to get the gold medal.
Our family will bloom into something so beautiful that many other will be inspired by the great things both spiritual and natural that you (as the family) will achieve by and through God.
Now let us look at one of the elements forming the family: a human being.
Who can deny that the human body is a work of art?
Even the psalmist said “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made: marvelous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalms 139:14).
The human body is a very good example of how unity is important.
The human body is comprised of 3 sections (you see every where we turn we have this number 3):
-the thorax or chest and abdomen
-the members (hands and feet)
With the absence or nun-function of one of these sections we would die or be physically disable.
But if we have to examine this on a slightly deeper level: noticed that for each section to function properly it has to be joined to the others… so together they can form ONE highly performing system unmatched by the most highly developed robot or supercomputer.
Ok we will stop here for now…
Next time we will come back on the human body (in the natural) then we will see how unity is vital for the growth of the Church as the Body.
I will like to leave us with these words taken from I Corinthians 1:10
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment (repeat 2 times)
