It’s easier to obtain than to maintain
Gilbert Hughes, MINISTER of the wordCall in Christ Jesus, appointed by God, anointed as a teacherOperated in the gift of PROPHECY, WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE & healingMy mission statement the lord as anointed me to build leaders, worshiper,
God is calling his Church to go way beyond the boundaries of our historic and recent forefathers. To go over the fences of fear and unbelief that have stopped the Church fully possessing all God has for us. The fullness of the promises of God set out in the word, now is the time to rise up and be strong in the word of God.
God’s Word is All True All the Time. As Proverbs 30:5-6 tells us: Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
What is required to maintain that level?
One thing we don’t often consider it that once we achieve a new level in God, what is required to stay on that level. If you ever go from owning and ordinary car to a more expensive luxury car, you quickly realize that the operational and maintenance cost are much higher.
Once you achieve that next level you will need to have been prepared and empowered with the ability to maintain it
12 You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others, but instead you have dropped back to the place where you need someone to teach you all over again the very first principles in God's Word. You are like babies who can drink only milk, not old enough for solid food. And when a person is still living on milk it shows he isn't very far along in the Christian life, and doesn't know much about the difference between right and wrong. He is still a baby Christian! 14 You will never be able to eat solid spiritual food and understand the deeper things of God's Word until you become better Christians and learn right from wrong by practicing doing right. God expects His people to have His Word stored in their hearts. Deut. 6:4-9; Prov. 3:1-3; 7:1-3, The Word will help you in your relationships with others.
This book is for you the believer. It is about God’s awesome word. Words that won’t let you down, words that will change your life: to give you hope, wisdom, knowledge, revelation, and a loving reverence for God. Words that will make you stand tall, having confidence in who you are and what you believe. 'I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope’ Psalm 130:5
When satan came against Jesus to tempt Him, Jesus said, "It is written." He didn't argue or debate; He simply quoted what God said.
It’s easier to obtain than to maintain
To know God, you will have to know His Word, so whatever it takes It will take a quality decision, determination, it takes faith, perseverance, work, energy, patient, persistence and the hardest part — discipline. However, the reward is great. It’s all those internal qualities just to maintain
What is the evidence of love? (Is not passion), is obedience (if you love me obey my commandment) so our obedience is the evidence of our love for God, and without this book you don’t know what to obey
John 14:15, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." First John 5:3, "For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments." In John 8 Jesus said, "He who is of God hears God's Word"
The Word of God is the fountain of wisdom. It is the mirror of life that reflects the true image of the human person, without any mask and pretension.
Studying the Word of God also helps us keep our thoughts and ideas in line with God.
Remember, the Bible is God's Word. How you treat the Word is how you treat God.
"Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded" (Proverbs 13:13).
The Hebrew word translated "despiseth" is from a root meaning "not to respect" and is very similar to the word meaning "be ashamed of."
"Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments" (Psalm 119:6),
1. Luke 24: 32, open their mind to understand the scripture
2. What causes men to error?
Matt 22:29, Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
3. 2 Chron 15:3, now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. (They were lacking 2 things)
When Israel was without the teaching priest giving clear instruction and explanation of scripture they were deficient in there relation with God
Idolatry set in and the law of God was put aside
Preaching obtain, teaching maintain
Through preaching man will be saved but the renewing of the mind witch is maintaining and sustain your spiritual life come to the ministry of the teacher
The goal of teaching certainly is to make the Word of God clear and to proclaim the truth and teach the truth to you. But it also at the same time should stimulate you to want to take up the sword for yourself, take advantage of the tremendous opportunity you do have to come to grips with the great truth of Scripture.
4. Nehemiah brought the word back to the forefront and in public
Neh 8:8, they read from the Book of the Law of God, and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understands each passage
What did they do? Clearly explained the meaning of the word,
Clarity is the first law of learning,
And what was the intention? Helping the people understand each passage
Understanding anchor you
“For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law” (Nehemiah 8:9). This brought repentance, confession, and worship
That seed that felt by the wayside (people who hear the word but did not understand it and immediately the devil stole the seed. Matt. 13:19
What ever you don’t understand the devil can steel it from you
What ever you don’t understand can be stolen from you
If the purpose of a thing is not clearly understood, abuse is inevitable and that abuse will lead to robbery
If you don’t understand the purpose of marriage
23…But he that received seed into the good ground, is he that heareth the word; and understandeth it, which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.
Just as Nehemiah restored the scripture as central to the life of Israel
So it is that the scripture must be central to the life of believers and the church
If the scripture are not the central of your life, abuse, defeat will take place
I hope that you put God’s word first in your life. You will avoid many "spiritual pitfalls" in the days ahead if you do so. You will not be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine,
HOW TO MAINTAIN
5. Ps 119:130, the unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. (Even the simple can understand it)
The word ‘illuminate’ means to lighten up, or enlighten spiritually or intellectually. enable to understand
II. The Actions God expects with His Word
Who is John talking about when he says, "The Word"?
The Sophia (Wisdom) Wisdom literature, the power of God's spoken word (Ps. 33:6,
Jesus Is the Living Word of God; The Word of God is the name, identity, title and honor given to Jesus alone. This is who He is.
JESUS IS THE PROCLAIMING WORD
He Came To Proclaim Light - He came to a world in spiritual darkness and opened the curtains of grace revealing the truth of God to men wandering in darkness. Jesus came to illuminate the pathway of men toward God.
He Came To Proclaim Life - Jesus came to His people, who had His Word and were living in His promised land. He came to tell then that there was a way to come to the Father and to experience eternal life.
He Is the Constant Word, Jesus came to reveal God to man. The word "declare" means "to unfold." Every thing the Lord did was simply in an effort to unfold more of the revelation of God to man. Men needed to see God not just as a Lawgiver, but also as a lover. Not only as a judge, but as a justifier
The Word of God is alive. God’s signature is behind God’s Word.
The Lord comes in the volume of the book. (Psalm 37:4)
What is required to maintain that level?
A. Hear It – blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Luke 11:28
HEARING is not enough, hear never come to the knowledge of the true, come to church and listen but they don’t take notes, they not involved of what they heard. (Jesus said to apostle. Paul, the word that He gave Israel did not profit them because it was not mixed with faith in those that heard it. (Meaning they did not respond to what they were hearing)
B. Read It – I Timothy 4:13-16 / Revelation 1:3
C. Study It – We need to study the Word of God to be intelligent Christians.
Study to show yourself approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15)
D. Memorize It – We need to memorize the Word of God to be skillful Christians.
Deut. 6:4-6 / Psalm 119:11
E. Meditate on It – We meditate on the Word of God to be spiritually fruitful Christians.
Josh. 1:8 / Psalm 1 / Psalm 119 (many verses) / I Tim. 4:15 Psalms 1:1-2 says, ' 'Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night," Meditate means to be absorbed in thought — to rehearse what God's says over and over. It involves thinking God thoughts — listening to the Spirit and applying the Word to our actions. Another meaning of the word meditate is to "mutter." As you meditate, speak the verse out loud — over and over. Think about each word. You'll be amazed at how quickly you' 11 memorize it. Take the verse, read it as it is, think about it, personalize it, say it again, think about it. Concentrate. As you digest it you'll be surprised at the blessing that you receive.
F. Apply it (Obey It – Proclaim It); we apply the Word of God to be obedient Christians.
Delighting in the Word and because you delight in it you learn it and when you learn it you apply it, it effects every area of life. It makes you wiser than your enemies, your teachers, the aged of every society. It helps you turn aside from sin and discerns for you so that you can avoid every false way. Verse 105, "Thy Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path." Verse 111, "I have inherited Thy testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart." Verse 113, "I hate those who are double minded but I love Thy law." Verse 127, "Therefore I love Thy commandments above gold, yes above fine gold."
Beware of these four things that will hinder you from sitting at Jesus’ feet and hearing His Word, as He would have you to do:
1. Worldliness – note Col. 3:1-4, Matt. 22:36-40, I John 2:15-17, and Rev. 2:1-5
2. Busyness – note Luke 10:38-42 (Mark 4:19 & Luke 21:34 relate to #s 1 & 2)
3. Laziness – note Prov. 6:6-11, 20:13, and 24:30-34
4. Stubbornness – note I Sam. 15:22-23; Prov. 1:20-33; Isa. 65:2-5; and Jer. 25:4
God deserves your best and you can't give Him that when you're out of balance. Making time for Him will help develop you spiritually and increase your faith and trust in Him.
Conclusion The word of God, the scripture must be the center of my life, built and live my life around the word of God.
Your grasp of the bible, (understanding of it) it require all of you spirit, soul, body 1Thess 5:23 like Job who said, "I've treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." They're like Jeremiah who said, "Thy words were found and I did eat them and they were the joy and rejoicing of my heart."
Thy commandments make we wiser than my enemies for they are ever mine. I have more insight than all my teachers for Thy testimonies are all my meditation. I understand more than the aged because I have observed Thy precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way that I may keep Thy Word. I have not turned aside from Thine ordinances for Thou Thyself has taught me. How sweet are Thy words to my taste, yes sweeter than honey to my mouth. From Thy precepts I get understanding, therefore I hate every false way."
