Turn off the distractions of the world and turn on the Word.
By Gilbert Hughes, written on Friday the 19th of November 2010

Turn off the distractions of the world and turn on the Word.

Gilbert Hughes, a teacher of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

God said "You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse..." Ezekiel 2:7

SCRIPTURE READING "The steps of a (good) man are directed and established of the Lord, when He delights in his way (and He busies Himself with his every step)." (Psalm 37:23, the Amplified Bible)

PRAYER

"Father, in the Name of Jesus, I commit myself to walk in Your Word.

I recognize that Your Word is integrity itself-steadfast, sure, eternal, and I trust my life to its provisions.

"You have sent Your Word forth into my heart. I let it dwell in me richly in all wisdom. It does not depart out of my mouth; I meditate in it day and night so that I may diligently act on it. Your Word is an incorruptible seed, abiding in my spirit, and it's growing mightily in me now, producing Your nature, Your life.

"I thank You, Father, that Your Word is my counsel, my shield, my buckler, my powerful weapon in battle. It is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. It makes my way straight before me, and I never stumble or fall for my steps are ordered by Your Word.

"I am confident, Father, that You are at work in me both to your will and to do Your good pleasure. I exalt Your Word. I hold it in high esteem and give it first place in my life. I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation-the living Word of God. Amen!" SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 119:89.105

The Word of God Always Works

God’s word always works. It always accomplishes what it was sent to do. Whatever it was sent to do, it accomplishes it. So, it should always be the primary tool we use. Isaiah 55:10-11

Jeremiah adds, "Is not My word like fire?" declares the Lord, "and like a hammer which shatters a rock?" Jeremiah 23:29. Two word pictures are given here.

The first describes the purifying activity of the Word. Fire burns off the dross. It gets rid of impurities.

The second picture describes a shaping activity. The stonecutter removes unneeded rock by breaking it off. This brings out what the Craftsman intended for the rock, what the rock could never accomplish on its own. In both cases,

the Word accomplishes what God has sent it to do, to purify for Himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds (Titus 2:11-15).

Five key Words That Work

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

The Word of God is to your spirit as bread is to your body. When your body feeds on physical food, it produces a physical power called strength. When your spirit feeds on the spiritual food of the Word, it produces divine spiritual power called Manifested in five differences powers

  1. (dunamis): inherent power, the omnipotence of God
  2. (exousia): delegated authority
  3. (energeia): "operational power, energy, ability to work."
  4. (kratos): power of control, dominion, might
  5. (ischus): endowed power, the faculty of power

Do you want to turn on the Word today?

Then make these five key words the most important words in your vocabulary. Use them every day.

If we want to grow spiritually, if we want to walk in power and in fellowship with the Lord, we’ll have to spend the time it takes to know Him. We must continue in it every day. For the moment we stop moving closer to Jesus, we always start drifting away.

Take the first key

Don't Stop at the Gate

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the Throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace and help in time of need."(Hebrews 4:16)

When you made Jesus the Lord of your life, one of the privileges you received was the right to come to the throne room of God any time you want to. Think about that! You have the right to go boldly before God and obtain whatever you need.

Many people don't go boldly into the throne room. Instead they think, "I could never go in to where God is. I’ll just stand out here and yell and hope He hears me

Right now, make a decision to give yourself to the things of God. Focus your attention on the Lord.

Don’t Just Sit There...Arise!

No matter how bad the problem is you may be facing today, no matter how far under the circumstances you may be, today you can be back on top!

That's what the Samaritans thought in 2 Kings 7. Their land was being ravaged by famine. Enemy troops had surrounded them and cut off all source of supply. Mothers were eating their own children just to survive.

But right in the middle of that, the Lord told the prophet Elisha that the whole situation would change.

What did God use to turn that situation around?

Four lepers! Four lepers who, instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and waiting to die, decided to arise and take their chances in the enemy camp. "We will starve if we stay here and we will starve if we go back into the city; so we might as well go out and surrender to the Syrian army. If they let us live, so much the better; but if they kill us, we would have died anyway."

When they got there, they found it abandoned. All the warriors had been frightened away by the angels of God, and they' had left enough food behind to feed all of Samaria!

Stop looking at your problem, and feeling sorry for yourself, that won't change anything! Just like He did for Elisha, God's given you a word. He's promised you victory. He's promised to make you an over comer. So don't just sit there till! You die. Don't accept defeat. Rise up in faith. Stand up on God's Word

Possess Your Promised Land Start possessing your Promised Land!

God has given, You Promised Land. It's a place flowing with milk and honey, where your every need can be met. A place where no weapon formed against you will prosper. A place where you are seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers; far from oppression. As you study the Word of God,

And, by the way, He added, "Those gates aren't locked.

Don't waste time standing around outside heaven's gates. Through Jesus you belong in the very throne room of God. So come right on in. The door is always open for you.

Second key

Put the Word First Give the Word more of your attention

I want to tell you the only real secret to getting ahead in this world. It's simple. Put the Word of God first place in your daily life.

God says that wisdom is the "principal thing." Principal means "first in importance." That means the Word of God needs to occupy the place of highest importance in all of your activities.

Put the Word of God to work in your Life and dare to receive the rich blessings that belong to those who believe.

Everything we need to know concerning life and godliness is found in the Word. We need go nowhere else. God has provided in the Scriptures all we need to live well with ourselves, others, the world around us and Himself. Listen to some of the things it does for us from Psalm 19:7-11: It restores the soul, makes the simple wise, causes the heart to rejoice, enlightens the eyes, warns us and rewards us. Study Psalm 119:97-105 for a rich description of what the applied Word does for a person.

Start using the Word to draw boundaries around your Life,

Invest your time in the word first and that investment will soon be paying off in every area of your life

You have to set aside your own ambitions and desires, spend time in prayer and the word

GOD’S WORD IS THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

Third key

Rekindle the Fire

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." (James 4:8)

Remember when you first got into the Word and were so excited about the things of God? Remember when you could hardly wait to read the next chapter in the Bible or listen to the latest teaching tape? There was only one word to describe you- HOT! Your re-born spirit was on fire for God.

But slowly that changed. We had grown lukewarm. You had let the fire die down. You still read the Word, but you had lost your enthusiasm.

If so, I want to tell you how to get the fire back.

God's Word says to draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. In order to do that you will have to first drop the things that are stealing your time from reading the Word.

Become diligent again. If you will give your attention to the things of God, soon your desire for God will increase. The more you attend to something, the more your desire is drawn to give attention to that thing.

This same thing will happen in the spirit realm. Your soul's desire will follow what ever you spend your time doing

Four key

        Delight Yourself

«Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures for ever.

He shall not be afraid evil tidings (fear of bad news): his heart is fixed (steadfast), trusting in the Lord." (Psalm 112:1, 7)

The man who makes a habit of delighting in God's Word will have a heart that's fixed! He can make it through disastrous situations without losing his balance. His mind's made up before he ever gets to the disaster. He’s victorious before he ever gets there. A person like that is hard to whip!

The sad thing is that most believers wait until the disaster hits before they start trying to establish themselves on the Word. They wait until their back is against the wall. Then, suddenly, they get real spiritual and start fasting and praying...and too often they find they've started too late.

Be ready before the devil breaks into your house. Get your heart fixed. Turn off the television. Turn off the distractions of the world and turn on the Word. The time to start establishing yourself on it is right now! prov. 1:20-33

Feast on the Word

What do you delight in? Noticed concerning the person who is blessed: “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” This verse essentially tells me that the man who is blessed is the one, whose delight is for the Word of God, he will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Ps 1:1-3

You can claim the scripture for yourself; I am like a fruitful tree, planted by streams of water, my job; my relationship is like a fruitful tree, planted by the rivers of water, it will bring forth promotion, reconciliation in season and everything I do will prosper

What can bring delight?

All you have to do is make a decision to give yourself to the word.

Focus your time and attention on the word.

The more you give yourself to it, the more your desire for it will grow. Eventually, it will consume your thinking.

Surrender and opening your heart to the message of God’s word for YOU! This is what is life changing and that brings delight.

Let God word Rub Off on You

As a believer, you're destined to be Molded into the image of Jesus, to grow in spirit until you look just like Him.  Spend more time pursuing the things of the Spirit than you spend pursuing the things of the flesh. Become dedicated to the Word of God and to fellowship with Him. Be willing to pull aside from the busy things of life and get alone with Him, so He can guide you, teach you and share His likeness with you.

Have you ever noticed that if you spend time around people who have strong personalities, you will automatically be affected by them? You'll find yourself doing the things they do. Their mannerisms will rub off on you. You can't help it. They just influence you, especially if they are people you respect and admire.

The same thing is true in your relationship with God. If you spend enough time with Him, He's going to rub off on you! His ways will become your ways.

So make yourself available to Him by praying in the Spirit and worshiping and loving Him. Hang around His Ward and the people who love His Word and live it.

Before you know it, you'll begin to notice yourself changing. You'll find your character becoming more like His. You'll begin to think like He does and talk like He does and even act like He does. His image will begin to shine forth in you!

Five key

Make the Word the Last Word

Jesus is the beginning and the ending. He is the Almighty. He was giving us a powerful truth we can apply now, today!

Let me show you how. He said He is the beginning. So no matter what challenge or situation you may be facing right now, you need to start with Him. John 1:1 says Jesus is the Word. That means if you're going to start with Jesus, you're going to start with the Word. Don't do anything until you find out what the Word has to say about it.

Then, stay on the Word. As Colossians 1:23 says, "Continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, witch you have heard."

Don’t let go of the Word, no matter what may happen

Then end with the Word. Jesus said He was the first and the last. That means the word of your doctor is not the last word.

Even the word of your enemies is not the last word.

The Word of Jesus is the last Word!

There are times our bodies encounter sickness, disease, pain, etc.  That is a fact.  But the real truth, the last word is Jesus bore all of it for us and by the stripes that wounded Him we are healed.

Paint spiritual warming signs for the devil. Signs that say:

According to God’s Word, I don't belong to you anymore. My family doesn't belong to you. My health doesn't belong to you. My money doesn't belong to you. My ministry doesn't belong to you. I belong to a different kingdom. Now, back off in Jesus' Name!

Remember this:

You are now what the Word says you are.

You can do what the Word says you can do.

And you can have what the Word says you can have.

Begin to believe that. Begin to say it out loud in faith.

Conclusion

Changed, transformed, transfigured! Those are powerful. Exciting words and they describe what will happen to you as you spend time beholding the Lord in the Word and in prayer. As you spend time renewing your mind, your outer being will be transformed in much the same way as a caterpillar is changed into a butterfly. Take time to get away from the world and study God's Word. Meditate on it and let it change you from the inside out. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind and release the beautiful spiritual butterfly that’s in you!

The Choice Is Yours "Choose you This day whom you will serve." (Joshua 24:15)

I decided to choose Jesus (the word). Since then I’ve had to choose Him again and again in situations every day. I’ve chosen Him as my Lord and Saviour. I’ve chosen Him as my Healer. I chose Him as my Financier. I chose Him as head of my household. I chose Him as head of my ministry. And I still have to choose Him moment by moment. Sometimes that choice gets tough, but God has promised it will never get too tough. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, He says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted, above that ye are able

So choose to walk in love. Choose to walk by faith. Choose to live by the Word. Jesus is the Way! Choose Him!

It’s easier to obtain than to maintain

The Practical Application Of God's Word

Getting ready to enter to the next level

When man listens, God speaks. When man obeys, God acts.
