Expansion: Do not limit yourself; be your best presentation

There was this big telecommunication company that was offering this very prestigious post with so many benefits: fully furnished and paid villa, car, free gym, free plane tickets to travel to any country worldwide and a bonus each time the person convince smaller companies to associate with this larger one and signed a deal.

Many people reacted to the job offer but only 1 was selected.

Many were rejected because of the way they were dressed, some were rejected because of the way they speak, others because they lied on their CV and lack the complete knowledge in the field.

Only 1 person made the best presentation in all aspects: dress-code, speech and knowledge and was approved by the CEO and was giving the keys to the office as 1st vice-executive director.

The same way: GOD called us to be our best presentation in all what we do.

Let us read: Titus 2:6 to 8

Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing incorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

Sound speech that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

In this teaching we will discover together 3 main points that can guarantee us in being our best presentation in life.

  1. Present ourselves as a good example:

As we just read in Titus, we are to make sure that we present ourselves as a good example in ALL THINGS (every aspect of life).

But why is this important?

Some of us are students, others are working colleagues, some are parents or married with no children yet, others are single for the moment but we are all Children of the King. Just like with the Rich and Famous who are always tracked by paparazzi’s, we have the world looking at us every single moment of our lives.

 In the classroom there is that student or group of students who are closely monitoring the way you behave, dress or talk, or to see if you would cheat or not during an exam to see if you are really the person who you profess to be: a child of GOD.

The same way on our jobs, colleagues and the manager monitor our every move to see if we are late, honest if there is money extra or missing, participate in dirty jokes when no one from church is around.

What would people think and react if we, as Believers, cannot set the good example? Will they want to follow us? Will we expand the Kingdom of GOD here on Earth?

But this just not only apply to our outer-sphere (friend, colleagues and school mates) but also in the inner-sphere (the family).

In English there is an expression that says: “What Monkey see, Monkey do”. I don’t know for the word “monkey” but little children are great imitators. If I want to teach my son a new word, he has to look at how I form my mouth and pronounce the word and try to do like me and repeat the sound he hears.

But what do you think will happen if he constantly hears bad words or vulgarities? Or sees me dress without any self-respect? Drink and smoke? Or be unfaithful to my wife, his mother?

Some parents would punish their child if he/she lies but if someone comes to the house or call over the phone and you don’t want to receive/talk to them we would tell the child to say that we are not home.

We are contributing to the destruction of the Family, of society and the nation when we give the bad example. A liar cannot guide another liar to the truth. In fact in one of His teachings Jesus said: “if the blind would lead the blind, both shall fall into the pit” (Matthew 15:14)

How can we present ourselves as a good example?

    1. First we have to have GOD’s approval.

Just like a computer program, after the conception phase, there must be the testing and approval phase before commercialization. Sometimes, even the best engineers, while writing the codes for a program, can forget a small element (sometimes a small symbol like a question mark or a coma) and the program doesn’t work or works terribly with a lot of errors… this is called a bug.

In Beginning after GOD created everything, He approved of it: Genesis 1:31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Then after came the expansion.

During His baptism, Jesus also received the Father’s approval: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:17) then after His ministry begin to expand (Matthew 4:17).

When we sinned, our programmed became corrupted and everything we did, generated errors. The system crashed every time. But when Jesus came into our lives He removed the bug, and gave us a reboot

Now that we are bug free and have been rebooted, we receive the seal of approval of the Master of all Engineers.

b.  Demonstrate the approval by good works

There is a universal law that states that one cannot give of what one do not have!

So in order to perform good works, good must reside inside… this should come naturally just as gravity is in the physical world if Jesus lives in our heart. In fact Jesus himself said in John 14:10 and 11 “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.


II.        Showing Integrity

Another key to being our best presentation is integrity.

We all know that integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. That is basic definition so let us take it higher.

If someone is very honest and sincere every second of the day on a Sunday only, at church and even at home, but when Monday comes they performs “Pinocchio’s art”. Would you say that person has integrity?

Titus 2:7 start by saying “In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works” then goes on to give details saying: teaching incorruptibility and seriousness.

The word pattern has 2 meanings:

A model, or something a person can follow or imitate

Something that last a long time: global climate patterns, social patterns in generations, etc.

So in other words Integrity can be define as a lifestyle of righteousness and persistency. We ought to display integrity always and in every situation in Life. It does not have to be like a piece of clothe that we put on and take off, but rather it should become part of our being.

A good example of this shown through the life of Job. Job 1:1 says that Job was blameless and upright, he feared GOD and stay away from evil.

How many sons did Job have? (v2)

Each day 1 son would have a feast (v4)

Each day Job would wake-up early to offer a burnt offering and prayed on the behalf of each one of his children. The Bible went as far to tell us that Job did so continually = it was a pattern in his life.

This was not so much a burden for Job, it was something natural, it became part of himself because he feared GOD. GOD approved of Job (v8).

It is one thing to have man’s approval, but when you have GOD’s approval your name and deeds are writing down in history and you become a model for countless people to follow (David, Abraham, Joseph, Peter, Paul… to name a few).

When we display integrity and bear GOD’s approval we are like “teachers”.

Do you know we can teach someone just by the lifestyle we live?

We can lead someone in a wrong direction toward destruction and will be accountable for it, just as much as we can lead someone in a right direction unto salvation.

What direction are we leading others?

The good works that we do speaks louder than the words that come from our mouth. Others imitate and learn after what we do. (Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.)


So once we have gain the approval of GOD and display it by living a life of integrity, there is one last step we all must complete to ensure the expansion of the Kingdom of GOD and guarantee that we are our best presentation: our speech.





III.           Speak the truth

Titus 2:8 says “Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you

The new translation says “Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.”

Noticed that throughout chapter 2 of Titus, the word “Teach” is referred many times!

Integrity and Truth are qualities that have to be learned and the only way we can learn them is by putting them into practice daily.

What we say has to represent who we are.

We have to first live by the truth then we will be able to speak it.

The Bible says in Luke 6:45  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

Remember that we are accountable for each word we speak. The words we speak can either set us free or condemn us.

Although it varies from one country to another, a criminal arrest in the USA is always done while the policeman reads the person his rights: “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney present at questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you”.

So we are to be very careful what we speak whether when we are alone, with friends, family, at church or on our jobs.

Speaking the truth always is one of the fruits of integrity. Jesus spoke the truth always and everywhere he went. Even until the end when he was brought before Pilate: Jesus spoke only when he had to talk, and when he spoke he spoke the truth and did it with authority. No wonder Pilate said “I find no fault in him”. He was blameless and irreproachable.



Remember that we can only give and teach what we have inside. Jesus himself said: “I am the way, the truth and the life”. So if I have Jesus living in me I also have the truth living in me. But even more: because He is the way to salvation, when each time of our lives we display integrity and speak the truth to someone, we are actually guiding them to salvation… this is why Paul wrote in verse 11 “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.”
